Boiling Bananas with Cinnamon

  • ripe (but not overripe) banana, ends trimmed and cut in half (you can leave the peel on!)

  • 2 cups water

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon or 1 small cinnamon stick

  • (Optional) 1 tsp honey or maple syrup for sweetness

Instructions

  1. Boil:
Bring the water to a boil in a small pot. Add the banana halves and cinnamon.

  2. Simmer:
Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. The banana will soften, and the water will take on a slightly sweet flavor.

  3. Strain:
Pour the liquid through a strainer into a mug. You can drink it as a banana-cinnamon tea.

  4. Optional – Eat the banana:
You can also mash or eat the softened banana (some people add it to oatmeal or yogurt).
