Here’s a clear blood pressure chart by age to guide you. Remember, these are general ranges — individual readings may vary slightly.

Age Group Systolic (Top) Diastolic (Bottom) Notes
1–5 years 95 60 Very flexible arteries
6–13 years 105 70 Slowly increasing
14–18 years 110–120 70–80 Teen growth & hormones
19–39 years 110–130 70–85 Ideal adult range
40–59 years 115–135 75–88 Arteries begin stiffening
60+ years 120–145 80–90 Slightly higher normal range

As you can see, a normal blood pressure range increases gradually with age. What’s high for a teenager might be perfectly normal for a senior.

4. What Is High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)?

When your numbers regularly exceed 130/80 mmHg, you may have high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. It’s a silent condition that can lead to:

  • Heart attack

  • Stroke

  • Kidney damage

  • Vision loss

Hypertension causes include:

  • Too much salt or processed food

  • Smoking and alcohol

  • Lack of exercise

  • Obesity or poor diet

  • Chronic stress

  • Family history

Doctors classify hypertension in stages:

  • Stage 1: 130–139 / 80–89 mmHg

  • Stage 2: 140+ / 90+ mmHg

If your numbers reach these levels, don’t panic — with healthy habits and sometimes medication, it can be controlled.
