✂️ 2. Propagate It the Easy Way
One of the reasons the Christmas cactus is so beloved is how easy it is to multiply. Propagation not only gives you new plants but also helps rejuvenate the old one.
Here’s how to do it:
-
Let the cutting dry for a day before planting.
-
Insert it about one-quarter of its length into moist, sandy soil.
-
Place the pot in a bright area but away from direct sunlight.
In a few weeks, you’ll notice new roots and small shoots. Once the young plant looks sturdy, transfer it to a larger pot with the regular soil mix.
💡 Tip: Propagate your cactus in spring — this gives it time to develop before the blooming season.
💧 3. Master the Art of Watering
Watering is where most people go wrong. The Christmas cactus needs moisture — but not too much!
During spring and summer, keep the soil slightly moist. Water when the top layer feels dry, but never let the pot sit in standing water.
In fall and winter, reduce watering frequency, allowing the soil to dry a little more between each session. Overwatering can cause root rot, one of the most common killers of this plant.
