Sometimes the simplest request can unravel into a story you end up telling for years. What began as a harmless reminder quickly turned into a lesson in panic, mischief, and the strange way humor can hold a marriage together. Knowing her husband often skimmed texts, the wife decided to be clever. She sent a message reminding him to buy bread, casually adding, “when you come home from work and your girlfriend Valerie greets you.” She smiled, confident the name would catch his attention.
It worked instantly. His reply came fast: “Who is Valerie??” Laughing, she answered that Valerie was nobody and she only wanted to be sure he actually read the message. Then his next text changed everything. He claimed he was with Valerie right now and thought she had seen him. Her amusement vanished. Heart racing, she demanded to know where he was. His reply was brief and unsettling: “Near the bakery… the one you love.” Within minutes, she was out the door, purse half-zipped and thoughts spinning.
