Little Girl Selling Her Only Bike Said Three Words That Made Four Bikers Cry

The little girl selling her only bike said three words that made four grown bikers cry in the middle of the street. She couldn’t have been more than five years old. Blonde curls. Pink sandals. Standing next to a tiny purple bicycle with a handwritten cardboard sign that said “FOR SALE.”

My brothers and I were riding through this quiet neighborhood on our way to a charity event when we saw her. Just standing there alone on the sidewalk. No parents in sight. No adult watching over her.

I pulled over. My three brothers did the same. Four Harleys rumbling to a stop in front of this tiny child.

She didn’t flinch. Didn’t run. Just looked up at us with these huge blue eyes filled with something no five-year-old should ever feel.

Defeat.

“Hey sweetheart,” I said, climbing off my bike. “What are you doing out here all by yourself?”
