Jeep plows into Amish buggy near Berne, father airlifted, multiple children!

The buggy carried nine occupants, most of them children. When the Jeep slammed into the rear of the carriage, the force obliterated the fragile structure. Passengers were hurled onto the roadway, their bodies landing where lantern light and reflective tape were never meant to compete with headlights and speed. What should have been a quiet return home turned into a mass-casualty response, illuminated by emergency strobes, helicopter floodlights, and the harsh sound of sirens echoing through farmland.

Seven people were injured in the crash. Several of the victims were children. The father suffered the most severe injuries and was airlifted by medical helicopter to a regional trauma center, his condition serious enough to demand immediate advanced care. Paramedics worked quickly in the dark, stabilizing the injured while trying to piece together who belonged to whom in the confusion. For first responders, the scene was one of the most difficult they face: multiple pediatric patients, scattered debris, and the knowledge that seconds mattered.
