THE END
When my neighbor dropped off a perfectly wrapped loaf saying, “It’s just a small gift,”
something in my spirit whispered don’t touch it.
Everyone laughed at my caution—
until the next day proved exactly why I was right.
“Mummy, can we eat it now?” my little boy begged, holding the golden-ribboned bread.
I said “Not today,” even though I couldn’t explain why.
My friend took it instead—
and what happened afterward still makes my heart tremble.
